Many calls I receive, the father of a child or children seems surprised when I tell him that child custody is not automatically given to the mother. Child Custody in New Jersey is gender neutral, meaning the courts do not favor one parent over the other solely based on sex. A father has every right to be the custodial parent or joint custodial parent. Fathers are just as equipped as mothers to care for their children.
