Uncontested Divorces in New Jersey

How much does it cost to file for a divorce? $250 without children, $275 with children.
Where does one file for divorce? Depends on the County you reside in but in Essex County, Newark it is located on 212 Washington Street in Newark. Hudson County is 595 Newark Avenue, Jersey City.
What information do I need? Date and Place of Marriage, Names of Parties, Name and Dates of Birth of Children, Insurance Information, and is the other party in the Armed Forces?
How long does it take? Depends on whether the other party answers or defaults. Can take as little as 8 weeks or much longer depending on time of year and court. Average time for uncontested divorce where other party acknowledges service, 2.5 months.
Do I have to know where my spouse currently resides? No. However, if you do not know, it will take longer as an additional step is needed.
Does my spouse have to sign for the divorce? No, he or she just needs to be served.
Can I have/use my maiden name again? Yes, that can be added to the judgment.
When will I get the divorce judgment? The day of the divorce hearing.
