Often people come into my office indicating that they just received divorce papers or motion papers that their spouse wants alimony/spousal support or child support and are unsure what to do. If you receive divorce papers by way of a process server, you have 35 days to answer those papers. If you receive those papers via mail, there is no time limit to answer unless you have been avoiding process service. Either way if you have divorce or motion papers before you, you should act quickly. Contact an attorney to discuss your case because if you do not address issues correctly the first time in court, it will be difficult to change that court order in the future.
